Exploring Beyond London: November Adventures
This month has been all about stepping outside the bustle of London and discovering nearby gems. From historic villages to iconic royal landmarks, and even a sunrise photowalk through the city itself, it’s been a rewarding mix of culture, history, and creativity.
Heading southeast, I visited Eynesford, a quiet village nestled along the North Downs Way. Despite its size, the village is rich in history and charm:
• Roman Fort – A reminder of Britain’s ancient past.
• Eynesford Castle – A medieval ruin with atmospheric views.
• World-Inspired Garden – A unique space blending horticultural styles from across the globe.
• Nature Reserve – Perfect for peaceful walks and spotting wildlife.
• Shoreham WWII Museum – Just further south, offering poignant insights into wartime life.
Another highlight was a trip west to Windsor, home to one of the most famous castles in the world. The grandeur of Windsor Castle never fails to impress, but the real joy was walking the Long Walk—a 5km stretch leading to the striking Copper Horse statue. The combination of history, architecture, and sweeping landscapes made the visit  spectacular
Towards the end of the month, I joined the second 5am PhotoClub Photowalk. Starting at Oxford Circus, we wandered through Carnaby Street and Regent Street, capturing the city as it slowly woke up. The walk ended at Trafalgar Square, where the mix of early light and iconic architecture provided the perfect finale.
From tranquil villages and royal landmarks to creative city explorations, November has been a month of contrasts. Each trip offered something unique—whether it was history, nature, or photography—and together they reminded me how much there is to discover just beyond (and within) London
